85 Evinrude model year

I have an 85 hp Evinrude, need to find the year it was made. Numbers on the top of the head are: 858956 & J0003011. Can somebody help me? Thanks.

Hello preacher <br />85895 = is a 1978 85 hp<br />

Thanks so much. Do you know anything else about this particular outboard that would help me? I just got it with the boat & trailer from a friend. It's been sitting up for 1 1/2 years, but was running great then after some service. Will it spray or stream water if the water pump is working? Thanks again.

Preacher<br />stream of water is good<br />steam is not good. <br />I would change the Impeler.<br />Do you have a maual? if not secure one,bottom of this page<br />Do a compression test<br />De-carb the Pistons<br />Change the lube in the lower unit<br />correct plugs Champion L77JC4-QL77JC4 .030 gap
