Hello everyone. new to this forum so thought i would ask this question.
Ive got an 85 johnson 30 hp motor that ive been having some fuel problems with. The problem is i can start it, the motor runs for a few seconds, revs up when you choke it then dies right out. Thinking it not getting gas but i know it is to the fuel pump anyway.
Ive been throught it, had the fuel pump apart and cleaned, replaced gas lines from tank,to the carb and to the fuel pump because the were cracked and wanted to eliminate pulling air.
new gas, . i had the carb apart and cleaned.
Im thinking my next step is going to be a repair kit for the carb. and maybe one for the fuel pump. the diaphram appeared to be strecthed somewhat.
Any help would be appriciated thanks

Yeah i am cold starting it , it has always been cold nartured where i have to choke or prime it several time before it will stay running. It does have an electric priming system on it where you puch the key on the remote in to actuate it.Problem is i can do this all day and keep it running but it will not run on its own. Once i let off the primer it will rev then shut off. unless i keep priming. thanks for the response.

Engine is not getting enough fuel for whatever reason. Start from fuel tank/s to carb/s and all points in between. Good luck and post back with results.!

Yea, I know what you mean about cold natured. I have two of these engines and they both sneeze a bit initially after a cold start, but run/idle fine afterwords. If you have to keep priming, I suspect a fuel restriction somewhere (as sfdskins stated). Please keep us posted.
