I need help,,, I purchased a new starter, a new battery after putting them both in my boat, I cant get the starter to turn the flywheel over quickly, it only turns about a half turn at a time..... I was curious if the Solenoid is going bad would this cause the starter not to have enough juice to turn the starter enough to engage the flywheel.... Any help!

Check for bad electrical connections. Clean them all with emery paper. Make sure to use proper lockwashers & nuts on the battery terminals. Toss the wingnuts in the trash. Try jumping the solenoid manually. Have you double-checked to make sure there is nothing mechanically binding, preventing crank rotation? These inlines need all the power they can get to crank.

I have pulled the plugs and checked to see if there is anything binding it mechanical. It spun a little more freely however never completley engaged enough to start the Engine. I tried jumping the solenoid it did engage the starter but never spun the flywheel it just went up and stopped. like it was stuck....

The next step is to bypass the solenoid, by touching the starter cable to the "hot" side of the solenoid. If it still doesn't spin fast, you either have a bad plus battery cable or bad ground from the starter or battery ground. My inline had a rotted battery cable, under the insulation, where it could not be seen, It had only two strands connected. As soon as the starter was engaged, the high current couldn't pass thru this part of the wire.
