I have an 84 evinrude 150 that I need to replace the water intake screen on. Unfortunately that means taking the lower unit off. I have never worked on a boat and on this one I am not going to start. However I called a local shop that can do it, they suggested some prevenative maintenance as well since the lower unit was already going to be off. My question is, am I getting the run around or should I go ahead and do it. What was suggested is replacing the intake screen, also replacing the water pump, and the oil in the lower unit. He quoted me around 240 for parts and all labor. While that doesn't seem unresonable I just want to make sure that I should go ahead and do these things while I am getting it worked on.
