Just picked this thing up and was an amazing barn find. Hour meter said 137.2 and it must be correct cause the only guy that owned it used it for a bit then just left it to collect dust. Even saw the original bill of sale. Just going through it for safety sake and cannot find the std piston ring gap for this motor. Any chance someone knows or remembers it?

Yes of course. Already have it stripped down. For the length of time it sat as well as the fact it was used in salt water I wouldn't just want to try to fire it up and hope everything goes well.

.015 to.022 is good. The newer supplied rings will have a larger gap

Excellent thank you!!! I knew someone in here would have that specific info. Now I gotta figure out prop pitch and my pontoon will be hauling a$$ across the lake next season.

What size toon? I have a 25ft Lowes with a 150(reinforced transom) and run a Solas 15x15 @ 5400rpm (1" carbs) and run low 30's mph

24' lowes. I already reinforced the transom last year to prepare for a bigger outboard just had to find the outboard. Now that I have, the SS prop that came with it is a $600 prop and for a 18' ranger that cracked 50mph on a normal basis.

The 70 hp that is on it now reached 22mph max but it had a 13.75x13. The way I figure with the additional power I can go up in pitch a little jist have to find the happy medium like i did for the smaller motor.

Took it apart due to how long it sat and yes there was a little rust on the spark plugs when I checked them. You can always trust what a spark plug tells you, just a tiny bit of rust in a few of the cylinders. I have a machine shop available to me through my job and I'm glad I did take the powerhead apart cause the head gaskets were DONE!!
Been through too many builds to not start from bare block so I went ahead and stripped it.
