84 150 johnson, need warning horn

bought a 84 ranger with 150 jnsn, warning horn was melted from inside out, what could cause this to happen, and where can i find another warning horn as dealer told me it's no longer available.

I will stick my neck out and say your dealer is an idiot.

The parts guy probably didn't want to fool with it.

Evinrude parts site says horns are available.
Quick EBay search brings up this:

Take your pick...you are the one that know which horn you need.

I tend to agree with your sentiment about the dealer DB. Those horns are available from multiple sources. Now proudly made in Mexico btw ...

Yo OP, they do self-destruct occasionally. I had it happen once. Smoke started pouring out of the control box and I ended up with a black gooey mess inside. Happened to a buddy of mine too. Never did determine a cause in either case, other than the horns just decided they'd had enough?

The original horn part number 389263 supercedes 3 or 4 times to this current horn number: 585992.
