I just bought a 1982 wellcraft w/ 115 outboard evinrude that needs flooring. I have never replaced wood flooring on a boat, can someone tell me how this is done?? I have tried to find info about the boat on the net, but I havent been able to find anything! Some one told me to cover the old wood with new wood but that just doesnt sound right to me. The guy I bought the boat from says the fuel tank needs to be cleaned out, currently using a couple 6 gallon above deck tanks to run. Do I need to take the tank out or what? How do you clean it out?? Thanks for your help in advance!!!

NOW WITH PICS OF DECKING!! I tore the carpet up and here is the link to see the pics!

IS THERE ANY EASY WAY TO GET BUY WITH JUST COVERING THE FLOOR WITH ANOTHER SHEET OF PLYWOOD IN THESE SPOTS??? I have a desighn that would look good in the boat if this would be ok for a couple years!

Welcome to iboats! You have come to the right place.

Do cover bad wood with good wood....... that would not work right! Since you have to replace the floor you will have the chance to remove and work on the fuel tank.

Floor restoration and fuel tank cleaning sound like the major issues. Have you taken any pictures? We are photo junkies and pictures help :)

Since the boat is in need of work I would strongly advise that you get the motor checked completely too. Decarb, impellar and just good old maintenance. Based on your brief description of the boat I will bet the engine could use the attention too.

Use the search function in the resoration section about the floor.

hey there. welcome to iboats. this place will teach you anything you need to know!! As BOB VT said about just search for "floor" or "deck" and you will find a bunch of knowledge on the subject

basically rip out all the wood that you consider the floor. check your stringers and transom for rot while you have access. If they are rotten replace them.. if they are not then you are very lucky and with the floor out you will have access to the gas tank.. so you can pull it out and flush it. then lay a new floor with the wood of your choice. seal it both sides and edges with glass and reinstall.. THIS is the quick overview.. read a bunch of threads and all of the completed projects for better detail..

I am currently working on a wellcraft excel so you can find my thread below

Or Robj's rebuild of the same boat as mine:

your in the right place to learn!!

Actually, the motor seems to run alright. Hard starting and idle at first but runs good after you get it going. Although everytime you shut it off and do a few minutes of fishing, its hard to start again. It likes to fire up and then stall out or idle rough and stall out while trying to put it in gear. As for pictures, I will put some up soon, the boat is parked an hour away at a freinds house so it will take me quite a few weekends to get this boat up to par! Thanks for the replies so far!
