boat running good but would cut out temporarily at full throttle but would still continue to run (probably due to non-waterproof connectors from power pack to ignition coils). Replaced with recommended connector running well but after 20 seconds at maximum throttle boat suddenely gradually lost power and cut out. Manage to restart but runs extremely slow and when accelerate engine wants to die. All ignition coils (resistance) tested identical. plugs, leads good. Can start/run engine on 3-cylinders port side. Swap power pack to starboard side and engine will not kick over the starboard 3 cylinders with the same power pack. identified the #1 and #3 cylinders (top 2 starboard) not affecting running of engine when disconnected. However these two appear to produce spark at plug.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated as my last experience with a mechanic cost me $600 and a lot of lost faith. Cheers.

G'Day, PEZZER.

Sounds to me like you have a problem with the top carb. Maybe floating debris in the bowl.

Could also be a fuel pump problem (not pumping enough fuel).

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the reply, i definetly think a detailed check of the fuel system is a must.

after a litle more searching i located this piece of info from www.outboardparts/troubleshooting.com

"Two or more cylinders misfiring: It is recommended that both power packs be replaced, unless the problem is a bad trigger."

Does anyone know if it is possible 2 power packs can blow at once? But why can i run the port side and not the starboard?

Surely i am not the only Johnson owner who experiences these problems?
