Recently got the old girl going. Replaced lower unit and impellar and re-built water pump. New plugs. Started no problem and cruised for ten minutes at three quarter throttle no problem. Wound it out to full throttle and it started missing and jumping around. Backed off and it stalled. When I took the cover off I noticed that the lead going to the bottom plug had come off. Replaced and tried to start to no avail. Now the teeth of the drive gear on starter motor have worn down to nothing.
Would the lead coming off have caused it to stall? Why wouldn't it start once back on? Flooded perhaps?
Have spent good money on getting it going so far. I'm hesitant to fork out for another starter if there's more serious trouble.
