Slow to reach top end or wot. New coils for a misfire. 125lbs on each cyl. Carbs rebuilt soaked and new floats. One time will run good idle ok. Next time the idle will be either too high clunk going into gear Fix idle on muffs put in water runs ok most of the day pull up to the dock and will not idle. Take cover off adjust idle up still will start and run when you put in gear will die. Heard a small backfire? coming from the carbs popping Ant Ideas?

A popping sound at idle is a carb issue. Running lean. Likely some of the idle jets may be restricted, leaning out the engine at idle. If so, you are looking at a carb teardown and cleaning. Remove the jets and inspect them. Possible dried leftover fuel in those small idle passages in the upper carb bodys, causing a restriction. That's good compression for that powerhead-worth putting some time and $ into.
