I have a 1984 800 stringer with 5.7 GM. I've been fighting a problem with the ESA microswitch. When going into and out of gear it works correctly to lower the RPMs. The problem is when going back to neautral I have to work the handle back and forth to get the RPMs back up. I've tried opening the spring, closing the spring and lots of lubrication but it's still hit or miss wether the microswitch will center itself properly. Any tricks to setting this up?

Re: 800 Stringer ESA switch problem

did you check the throttle shift cable adjustment for absolute neutral?
Do that and then go back and check the overstroke switch adjustments. Sounds like they may be engaged for too long.

Re: 800 Stringer ESA switch problem

Thanks KaGee I'll try that out. I'm not having any problems with gear shifting in or out just the switch sticking.
