My father's boat had a 8.5 HP outboard 2 stroke Mercury trolling motor. White color. HAD being the key word here. In my recent trip to Lake Powell i had a windy day and some really rough water. I decided to plow through it and accidentally ripped the wood apart holding the trolling motor onto the mount. Now there is a nice motor some 295+ feet below in the channel.
My question is this. What motor can I replace the old motor with? And do I need a short shaft or long shaft? This motor was used for trolling in larger lakes like Fish Lake and Flaming Gorge
The boat is an old bayliner fishing boat with a center console and a 120 hp Force outboard. I am guessing it is an old 1984 19 - 21' Capri from what I read, but have no real way of knowing. I can take pictures or round up a serial number.
Thanks.
