79 rude 115hp tilt and trim

Question: My tilt and trim will not go up and down, I have checked the fluid and the motor runs both up and down position. The fluid did have a milky color when I checked it so I think water has gotten in to it. Short of rebuilding, would a tnt unit from a 77 johnson 140 work in its place. The 140 model number is 140ML77S and the 115 model number is 115999R. Thanks for the help..

The two trim units are interchangeable. Both are 3-wire systems. (the 115 is a 79.)

Thanks, I was hoping they would interchange. And yea I realized I accidentally said 70 but I knew it was a 79. I appreciate the help.

In the manual it says you have to remove the motor in order to change out the tnt system, is it possible to change while the motor is still on the boat.

mness, I've removed the T&T from my 82 90hp without removing the engine, I don't believe there's much difference. Just remove the bolts on the sides, lift pin, block the drive up & hold your mouth right as you wiggle it out. Art.

Thanks, by looking at it it doesnt look like i would have to remove the motor.
