Hi all, I'm new to posting in this forum. I've used the site for refernce and doing research before. I was wondering if anyone can help me out as I'm at a loss for words now. I have a 1979 mercury 80 hp. 4 cyl. Two stroke. I recently took it out of winter storage to get it ready for the water. I started to fire it up and it turned over and ran for about 5 seconds. I inspected the motor and found my trigger wire frayed. I repaired it and tested the ohms and it checked out to spec. I also tested the stator and coils.those were good as well. Cleaned the carbs and set the floats properly. And put new plugs in. I then noticed no spark in cyl one and changed the coil. Got spark and it fired up for a few and shut down. I now have no spark on cyl one again. I messed with the timing a bit but I was told it won't matter and it should still fire up. The only thing I haven't checked was the rectifier and switch board. I really want to get this motor going as memorial day weekend is approaching soon. If anyone has any ideas on where to start I would greatly appreciate it. Also I have a sealoc on the motor and I'm handy with a wrench. Thank you in advance.
