don't know if this is a good part #. but i see i posted what i used in this thread. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=286068 post #4 i said i used. quiksilver 32-47642.
which at the date posted i believe was the correct hose. it sure is heavy. it came in a length that you can cut it up and get hosed 3 times with one purchase.. :(
i just got my hose at my local mercrusier dealer.. that number was what was provided.

i just googled the number. interesting what i came up with. note that hose is for transom to tstat housing. makes sense that i'd be the same hose between the gimble housing and the bellhousing i think.. anyways. thats what i used. a thick, nasty hard to work with hose..

edit, take note of the part # that dons posted (comment #2) too. ya might look into that one too.

Here's something you can try at your own risk, if you want, I jury rigged the hose at the transom. I was sick of it kinking all the time, so I picked up a 1"- 45* copper (sweat) elbow, lubed it with vaseline, then slid it over the hose that was there, to the centerpoint of the bend, and left it there,,, It took a little persuasion to get on, but worked great, & never moved from there, or kinked again! ;)

Illtww-
There was a TSB from Mercruiser regarding overheating at high RPM/speeds and immediate cooling with a slow down on this vintage drive. Many didn't follow through with the repair and that you have an 888 drive with this problem it fits the criteria of the TSB.
I've had this issue come up, when the WP is new and all else is checked out but you still have the problem, here is the solution; On the lower unit where the water ports are the relieved sections are not deep enough at the port holes and cause a cavitation at the holes at high speed. Take a round file and file all five slots back (both sides) taking specific care to relieve the area just before the water ports. Repaint the drive and give her a try.
