78, Mercury 500, Throttle Sticky/Tight

Hi guys, I have a 78 Mercury 500, the throttle is sticky or tight. The motor starts great and runs down the lake with no problem. I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how I can lube or oil the throttle so its not so tight. I have had the throttle housing open before I just an clueless on where to oil the thing. Any help is much appreciated!!

Presumably you have a remote control box with the throttle/shifter handle on it. The best thing to rule out is whether the cable is the problem. Just disconnect the cable at the engine and run the throttle from neutral to full and back and see if the same condition exists.

Check the cables for kinks or tight bends, lubing a cable on the boat is impossible and off the box and motor impractical
