CDI when new will likely produce a stronger spark, but the older points/coil/condenser system will allow you to troubleshoot and adjust, unlike a CDI system -- and certainly cheaper.

" Performance " means different things.----No a CDI motor might start easier with no maintenance required.----But a motor with CDI ignition does not go faster.

Thanks. I prefer something I can maintain.

What year did they switch to the newer "bigger" style.

I prefer the older more compact version where the tiller tucks away for transport
