I'm a first time poster on this site, and was told by an iboats vendor that I should post my request on here.

A friend of mine has a 1977 Mercury 20 hp, electric start outboard motor. He's looking for a stator that would fit this model. It has two wires coming out of it. The serial number on the motor is 3063949.

Would anyone know where I could find a reasonably priced replacement part?

I don't claim to be the know it all on boat engines and repairs to such, but I asked the same question of a friend who is. He suggested, and I will to you....go to NAPA with your part and see if they can match it. I was told the strator for my engine (1990 115) was over 150 from Mercury, but I could get the same 1 from NAPA for under 25. Find some boat guys in your area, they will be full of save money tips and tricks that, as long as the replacement parts are compatible, should save money and time and you from pulling your teeth to afford parts from the dealer.

Just caught your thread as I have busted the timing block on my 20hp 1970's vinmtage and am trying to find a replacement. Could you possibly supply the url for NAPA as all I get is references to Napa county and similar wines etc. Good tasting but not helping the old OB.
Thanks for reply

He was refering toi Napa auto parts which sell Sierra parts the same parts as iBoats. Sierra does not carry this stator as a aftermarket item...
