thanks BWR! and wmann its in the 30's for a few nights. I need the freeze north of here to push the ducks down! I have had the boat out fishing in Toledo bend. Might hunt in it there this year. Still using the kayak down in the marsh. Im a little timid running this one in known shallow marsh water after blowin the last one in a deep water river.

Well crew I am back in the dry dock for some work. Old 40hp i started would drip gas in the splashwell when tilted up. That gas ate the 5200 between the splashwell and transom. New 60hp without a transom saver bounced enough to pop the splashwell screws out allowing water to soften the wood. I am not taking any chances on a bandaid. Going to redo the the transom now. I already pulled the walls off. Next up is to beef up the garages trusses to hoist the the motor off.

For a 60hp merc is the flywheel a good way to screw the hook and use to lift the motor off ya think?

Ill figure out how to do pics again as i go.

Good to be back again for some work!

Sure gOne, show up when you need some help. :D Glad you're back.

Ebay has a guy that makes the motor lift and flywheel pullers for a hair over 30 bucks with shipping. Made in the USA is worth the few extra bucks to me - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercury-Mar....c100752.m1982

I check in here and there last couple years. I still search for deals for the next project boat but probably wait 3 more years till I am retired and settled in Florida somewhere. My motor ended up have a loop up top already so I wont need the flywheel thing. I have support wood up in the garage rafters to lift it off and hold while redoing the transom. I know from my first attempt I messed up by sparring two individual pieces before sandwhiching them together. I wont do that this time. My decision to make now is do I go exterior grade or marine grade ply?????

Change of plans. Had to do it today. Forces me to get wood sooner and start this weekend.

Good to see you back gone! It's too bad that you're not in drydock under better circumstances.

Exterior grade would be fine...put that extra cabbage into epoxy, cabosil (for epoxy plugs) and glass cloth if you plan to store the boat out in the elements?

Both marine and ACX will rot if not sealed well and covered when not in use. I went to using ACX fir due to it being easy to come by here.

Wmann... so i can get fir acx for 5$ more than pine bcx. You think overall better or either will do the same with coats of spar?

I know the gas leaks from older used motor caused this issue i have. So im going to beef up where the splashwell screws to the transom. With new new wood, beefed up splashwell and transom saver added it should be more water proof and solid than my first go at it.

Whats the screw of choice for bottom of splashwell into your transoms?

I have a few through bolts to remove tomorrow and its time to slip this sucker out. Im gonna attempt it with out removing the splashwell this time.

Ended up removing the splashwell. Its easier to do this solo again. Got all the bolts out. Now the battle to remove the wood.

This thing is poke through soft down at the Z brace. I blame the fuel leak that ate the splashwell seal and allowed water to penetrate the screw holes under the splashwell as well as not having it covered the last two years outside. My fault. Will rebuild it better this go around and keep it covered.

Also picked up two sheets of exterior ac fit and more spar. Gotta get this out to start new wood fit and coating.

Glueing new wood together before sealing this time. I cut the old wood up and the splashwell holes and its screw holes is where all the water got in to soften it up.

Transom cut and getting sealed. Boats a mess. Gonna order splashwell tubes this time instead of making my own too. And get longer screws than i used last time for under it. 20200614_120937_compress90.jpg20200614_120947_compress8.jpg
