Top end: 1978 Johnson Seahorse 6 hp 6r78b attached to:
Bottom End: 1959 Johnson 5.5 cd-16
My Frankenstein motor has been running great all summer but last trip when i got home to flush out in barrel water quit coming out plastic hole from head (water flow indicator). Was shooting out even at dock while I was putting on trailer. Water pump was supposed to have been replaced when I bought motor 8 trips ago. Ran for just a min or so and stuck my finger under outlet and could feel hot air starting to shoot out. Did not run the motor hot.
Is there a way to back-flush to see if it is just clogged? Is there a thermastat that may be the culprit?
If I need to replace water pump I know to buy the 1959 water pump related parts but is there a seal where the power power head attaches to the rest of the motor? If so do I order the older (1959 ) seal or the newer seal (1978)?
Shifter and tiller are the 1959 motor from under the power head down.
Thanks for any help, I am a automotive tech but this will be my first endeavor with an outboard.
Thanks, Azog
