75 stinger questions

hey guys...1st off is i'm not sure of the year of the motor... are there any numbers that i can look at to get a year???

Next i'm curious of the mix ratio, the guy we bought the boat from said he thinks 32:1

also i want to add more gear oil to the lower case. there are two screws, which one do i fill it too?? and what oil should i use?

last, is the tach or the temp gauge is not working. where does the tach hook onto the motor?>

Hello Ed,
The model number should be on a tag on the clamp brackets. Lacking that, it may also be on a nickel-sized freeze plug on the motor block.
Mix ratio is 50:1, regardless of what year.
Why do you want to add more oil? How do you know it is low? As a rule, you fill from the bottom hole until the oil comes out the top hole.
The tach runs off the rectifier - a small round cylinder with a triangular base. It is possible the rectifier is cooked and they are usually obviously so, .ie the filler material is melted out or burned. If the rectifier is bad, the tachometer will not work...

ok the model number is j75erlcsa....

as far as adding more oil, i removed the lower screw...(Philips) and a little bit of oil came out and it was black. very black. I took the top off and could smell that it was a gear oil, so i figured top was to fill and bottom was to drain. I guess i was wrong...haha

ok i found the rectifier, its not falling appart or melted. Is there any way to test it? or should i just get one anyway because of the age. Secondly, if its not the rectifier...do they sell tachs for a 3 cyl 2 stroke????

1983 manual available "http://www.outboardbooks.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=models.main&year=1983&ID=118743" go to engine faq, read awakening a sleeping outboard. and Joe Reeves recitifer testing. the straight slot screw are the drain and vent. it drains from the bottom and fills from the bottom. top is vent screw. makes sure all the voids are filled.
