Hi All
I bought a boat with a 1975 mercury 850 and the guy I bought it from mocked up a transom mount steering with the cable directly mounted to the motor steering arm. I want to change this to using the tilt tube in the motor but it appears to have a smaller tilt tube than normal. I measure the tilt tube to be 3/4" and not the normal 7/8" or 1" that steering cables seem to come in. Is this something anyone else has run into, am I measuring wrong or am I stuck with the transom mount and need to set it up properly?
