75 merc 850 thermostat?

SHould I see water coming from the discharge at start up or is there a thermostat that needs to heat up and open. 1975 Mercury 850 85hp

Bill, Those motors do not have thermostats. Water should come out of telltale after a few seconds. It also should come out gratings above antiventilation plate and thru hub of prop. Water should be no more than lukewarm when running of flusher, or idleing in water.

Pulled lower unit and found a toasted impeller. Water running great now. Appreciate the help.
