Hi, we just bought a '75 SeaSwirl Runabout with a 70 HP motor. The motor runs great. The problem is that it's locked, or something. When the motor is running, we cannot turn the steering wheel. Someone told us the cable probably needs to be replaced, and someone else told us that the motor could have a pin in it to prevent it from slapping around while being trailored. We do not have the owner's manual or service manual. This is our first boat, and we need help!

Anyone out there who might be able to shed some light on this problem would be greatly appreciated. ;)

disconnect the linkage at the front of the motor. turn motor by hand. then wheel. you obviously didn't take it for a test drive before buying.
