I am considering repowering my Montauk 17 with a 1997 Force 75. The boat is used only in salt water. The motor I have now is a very tired '84 evinrude 90 v4. The Force 75 is a 97 with few hours. I know nothing about this outboard and I'm looking for advice about this motor. Is it reliable, can I buy parts for it? What is a common weak point in this motor? Any advise, insight and recommendations would be appreciated.

Parts are available from Mercury and aftermarket manufacturers. The weak part of this motor would be neglect by the previous owner. It needs to be dearbed annually and have the waterpump impeller changed every two years.

It has a small gearcase and small diameter prop and that coupled with the downsizing in hp, may not give you the power you would like.

The '97 is a single carb model, which makes tuning and cleaning easier.
