97 motor. Get's hot only above about 4500 RPM, I changed water pump and thermostat, still the same. A local Mechanic said it may be salt deposits in the block. I flush the motor everytime but use it in salt a lot. Thoughts about his diagnosis?

Model number can be helpfull here. If you have good functioning thermos, water pump, poppet valve and grommet installed and are still having problems, salt deposits are a real possibility.

It's a 75 HP Yamaha 2-stroke, '97 model year.

The telltale is working well, but I haven't checked the poppet valve.

Thanks for the insight.

On the port side of your clamp bracket there should be stamped plate that shows your model no. On mine it shows the model no c75tlrw. As there can be different model no's for any given year of motor, it is used when ordering parts and also aids folks on this board trying to help with problems.
