75 Evinrude coils spark separately but not together

I have a 75 Evinrude 25 HP motor model 25553B. electric and pull. I replaced one of the ignition coils and am able to get a spark on each of them separately but not together. Anyone have any thoughts on what could be wrong? Is this common?

If you are trying to say that both coils produce spark, but not at the same time, that is the way they are supposed to work.

I am sorry, but me not being that smart, I am trying to understand exactly what your saying? Can you elaborate a bit more?

thanks didnt know if both would spark at one time or not I shot it with starting fluid and it fired right up!

Don't use starting fluid on your engine, use some fuel mixture and squirt it in the carb.
