75 40 hp evinrude won't spark

i have a 1975 40hp evinrude (m# 40555c) will not spark .has new points condensers plugs and coils and fresh battery. the only other electrical cmponets i see are the rectifier and stator. can eithier of these cause it not to spark or are they for the charging system only? any help is greatly appriciated thanks!

Do you have a kill switch that might be shorted?

a faulty stator can and will not produce a spark. i had mine go out on a 1980 50 hp. do you have a manual and a voltmeter? if you do, you can check the AC voltage coming from the stator while the engine is cranking... but as angus said above... look for the obvious first.<br />check the coil grounds. check the kill switch.<br /><br />i dont know what type of powerpack you have, but that can go out too. i know on mine, the measurement was 160 AC volts from the stator to the powerpack... yours may be same or may be differnet.. but get a manual
