'74 inline 6 choke solenoid barely moves

Finally trying to get the ol' inline 6 fired up for the first time this year. When I push the choke button up on the controller, all I hear is a click and the choke just twitches a little. My first thought would be a bad connection somewhere, but I rebuilt the entire harness last year. Anyone know what else might cause that? Bad solenoid?<br /><br />The choke works fine manually, BTW...

Usally if the solinoid twitches, the problem is something is binding or the inside of the solinoid is dirty

Should I try spraying some oil up there? I don't think anything is binding, since it slides up just fine with the manual choke.

If the plunger slide with the manual choke OK and the linkage is not binding I had a couple with the swivel point nuts to tight on the carbs, I guess I would ck voltage from the solinoid base to the input stud and when to engine ground to see if the circurt and ground are good

take a jumper lead from the big red post on the starter to the post on the choke solenoid, this will test the soleniod. the plunger should pop in flush with the base of the solenoid. i had to put a toggle switch on my dash for my choke.

ZmOz,<br /><br />Not sure if yours is exactly the same as my 1971 model, but at one time the tip end of the wire at the bottom of the solenoid "cylinder" (the wire has a small shaft that ties into the choke linkage) was hanging up. I bent the wire slightly at a point just below the pin (that ties into the choke linkage) and that solved the problem.<br /><br />Good Luck,<br /><br />Gold Bear
