74 Evinrude 9.9 recoil

Hey all ,have a question, I removed the starter recoil to replace the rope, the recoil spring has unwound,how do it retention the spring,and keep it all together and be able to put the recoil assembly back in the motor?

D I Y can be dangerous. To the carefree people. Wear gloves AND eye protection. Been there.
WEar long sleeve shirt and cover legs.

Any small part DROPPED onto the spaced apart dockboards ???? THen falls into the water ???
