Thought I should update about the proposed boatyard. Not happening. We've been digging for info about any possible liens on the property because I seen some concerning documentation when digging through county records. My mom also did some digging and found more mortgage info from the previous owners. Apparently they have outstanding mortgages through 2 separate private lenders so it doesn't show up as a bank held mortgage. But something still didn't look right. My mom happened to get in touch with one of the mortgage holders this morning as I was headed to her place to pick her up before the auction, and the second lender turns out has quite a reputation for being a pretty unscrupulous guy. The first lender didn't even know the property went up for taxes. So we bailed on the auction. A mutual friend went to the auction and said it brought 18k, so I wonder how many days until the new owners get certified letters from lawyers saying they now owe 30k in liens
This has been such a depressing day but I guess it worked out for the best. Better to find this info last friggin minute than 30 days down the road :blue:

Good times though, I did cut a huge gaping hole in the side of my glasser :D A guy is coming up from Va Saturday morning for the engine in it so I figured what better way to gain access than a sawsall

I can't think of a better way to take out your frustration with that whole situation. :mad-new:

Major bummer but at least you didn't get burned.

I had to wait to get the email  Ridiculous, email running wicked slow and can't connect my iPhone to my Linux PC. But have it now :D
Behold, the engine exit !

Yeah the demo blade sure felt good lol. I keep reminding myself the same thing, I could have been burned real bad. It's been a good learning experience for sure. now I know what to look out for. I wasn't really searching for a chunk of land before, just stumbled onto that one. But now it's in my blood...I need a garage and plenty of room for a pistol range. The search is on !

lmao...I really like the lines of the hull but the engine has been sold so whatever makes it easy :D I was thinking about doin a tannerite demo once the drive is pulled but I really don't feel like picking up that mess lol. My buddy I rent a lot from would love it, but the farmer he leases the field to wouldn't hehehe KaBOOOM rofl
I could dump a few mags from my P99 into her, but that just makes holes.....

I would of pulled up the couch:couch2: and grabbed a bunch of this:popcorn::popcorn: to watch a video of the glasser destruction:D
Too bad about the property but sounds like it was for the best.

Yeah, I agree dozer, it was for the best. We were just kinda casually looking for property before but now it's gotten in our blood, it's been bumped up to an active search lol.

I'll have to look into how much room there is out back, between where I can be destructive and where the farmer plants his corn. A member of a firearms forum I'm on offered up 4lbs of tennerite for any demo video :D My buddy that owns this property would probably get a blast watching that. 4lbs of binary explosives and a 22-250 would be awesome funeral for a glasser :target::rofl:

I got to thinking, I have a scrap chunk of 1/4" diamond plate aluminum that I have no use for. I wonder if I put a convex bend in it, if that would be enough to make a more directed charge. 22-250 will have no problem penetrating it, but would it be strong enough to direct the energy into the hull better than being open and taped on :noidea: Time for some research:ranger:
The cleanup will suck, but the sheer beauty of 1000#'s of 'glass' going orbital could be worth it lmao. I'll have to talk to my buddy that owns the property.
To keep it on topic, all proceeds from glasser parts sales benefit the Chief :D The engine goes 8am tomorrow!

I've been looking locally for some marine ply and found a source that has some in stock, 3/4 @ $91 sheet and 1/2 @ $ 70 sheet. I was waiting on a call from Lowes and they called back this morning, 3/4 @ $73 and 1/2 @ $ 52. Quite the difference in price. I asked the guy at Lowes where there's comes from, thinking maybe China lol, he said they get theirs from BlueLinx. So searching the BlueLinx site I find the AB Marine Ply is made by Roseburg http://www.roseburg.com/Product/abmarine/

The other local lumber yard, Belknap Lumber is know to have really good quality material, should I call them to see who theirs is sourced through ? For me that's a big chunk of change in the price difference. Or is the Roseburg stuff good ?

I called Belknap lumber anyway because curiosity wouldn't allow wait times lol. Their marine ply comes from the same mill, Roseburg. So that extra $21 per sheet is markup. Guess I'll be ordering it from Lowes, unless someone thinks it's not a quality product.

Thanks, Watermann, all I needed to hear ;) Belknap stocks it but for the price difference I can wait while it comes in to Lowes. Will be ordering Wednesday.

I am thinking about feeding of the bottom of Cayuga for the flotation though. Cayuga being 700+ feet deep so lol. I looked at Lowes for their extruded 2x4x8 and it's $32 a sheet. Can get all sorts of 2.5x4x8 expanded for $10 a sheet. I'm thinking I could build up blocks with it then coat the blocks with a rubber spray coating that Lowes sells. Save me a bunch of money and the rubber coating will keep the beads intact and dry, as well as stop squeaks.

At $32 a sheet that is half the price we pay up here, I wouldn't skimp on the flotation.

Whats that rubber spray use for propellant? And what all is in it?

I'll bet it'd eat/dissolve the styro bead foam

Whats the 1in extruded run? More then half the 2in? $16 or less?

Extruded is definitely a better material but I don't think it's really skimping, but using what the manufacturer used up till pour in foam came around. The foam I took out was dry as a bone other than spots of rat urine. The boat will still be kept dry, and if I can encapsulate the blocks there won't be an issue of beads floating around eventually. I don't really have a choice but to spend wisely as my wife still isn't back to work after her surgery and probably won't be for a few months. I was at first just going to use BCX ply but decided to go with marine ply so that's eating up a bunch of the budget.
I agree extruded is better, but it will still be safe.

Correction on extruded price is $34 a sheet, 1" is $17, so it will still be expensive just buying twice as much in smaller form.
I believe the propellant is propane. Here's a list of the chemicals...It's Rustoleum Leak Seal

Aliphatic Hydrocarbon
Propane
Dimethyl Carbonate
n-Butane
Hydrous Magnesium Silicate
Ethyl Acetate
Xylene (mixed isomers)
Methyl Isobutyl Ketone
n-Butyl Acetate
Titanium Dioxide
Ethylbenzene
Methanol 64742-89-8

I should look into the rc plane forum that I frequent, they had plenty of discussions of foam safe coatings.

Here's a foam sealing and containment idea that BWR had and executed on his Kingfisher. http://forums.iboats.com/forum/owne...ve-returned-with-a-starcraft-this-time/page15

Thanks, Watermann, never thought about bagging it. That would work great. I have a lot of that aluminum tape here too, I use it a lot. It usually used for HVLP installs as the heat and cold doesn't affect it.I used it to temporarily tape some plastic boat window material to the cab of my tractor. It held great for 2 years before it started splitting, but then it was exposed to -30 to 100deg temps with rain snow and high winds. I think it faired well. Under the deck it should last longer than I'll be alive.
