I picked up this old '74 Appleby recently. There is just an open flat floor currently with a small platform on the bow. I'm about ready to glass in the new floor and I've been toying with the idea of a raised deck just behind the bow platform for the front seat and underneath storage. I do want to keep an open floor, but a raised deck area behind the bow would be nice for storage and an elevated seating position. However, I am worried about the weight capacity and how much weight I can add to her. The manufacturers plate is no longer legible. boatA.jpg

I'm only going to use this on a couple of small local idle only lakes, so it's not a hugely important thing, but it would nice to sit a little higher up near the bow and have a place to store stuff and be able to leave it in the boat while trailering. How concerned do I need to be about adding a enough glassed plywood to do what I'm talking about?

Have you found or made the pedestals you asked about before?

seat box / storage pedestal

Or is that project still holding pending the deck & storage questions?

A trolling motor or an OB? Did it come w/ an OB? What hp?

How tall are the hull sides? How tall is the transom?

Solo fishing? Kids? Heavy buddy or 2?

Is that foam left stuck to the hull sides:

If not, what is all that yellow & brown stuff stuck to the inside of the hull?

Trailered? Or trying to keep it light to load & unload off a flat trailer/truck bed?

A 1974 14' Appleby doesn't show up in the iboat's Appleby listing:

Appleby

And there's only pontoons in the 1973 list

There was a fiberglass 1971 14' Appleby tri-hull:

Do the 1971 dimensions match yours? 14' long, 56" beam (width), 285lbs unloaded, 15" transom, 52" transom beam (width)...

If so, your's capacity should be comparable to the 750lb capacity for the 1971.

But it DID have flotation foam, so I'm guessing that stuff stuck to the hull used to be where the flotation foam was adhered...

That's just old glue and carpet fuzz on the side left after I removed the carpet.
It's just wide enough at the transom for a 4x8 sheet of plywood to set down in it.

I'm 220lbs. Any buddy that might go with me wouldn't weigh any more than me. But I think it'll add too much weight to make a deck as I would like. But I would like some sort of storage so I could leave stuff like PFDs in the boat while trailering as opposed to putting a lot of stuff in and out of the truck all the time. I'm thinking of using two plastic pickup truck storage boxes, somehow fastening them one on each side to where they're stable and won't move around but able to be removed if needed. Not sure how I'll do that yet, but that's what I'm thinking of. And I haven't decided what to do with the seats. it came with two of the short economy pedestals and they're the short ones. They make you feel like you're sitting in a childs seat. It's not comfortable at all. So I might make a pedestal box for the seats, maybe a place big enough to store anchors.

I don't have a bow mounted trolling motor yet. but I'm not sure if the foot control cable will be long enough if there isn't a raised platform. So that's another issue I may have.

And to think, I thought I'd just buy an old boat and go fish!
