I have a 73 merc 7.5hp that has been sitting in my garage for a while and I finally decided to put it on my boat, I did a little research on the correct fittings to hook my fuel tank up to it and have had little success. Does anyone know what the proper fuel fittings are for this motor?

Re: 73 merc fuel question

You have the small bayonet fuel fittings on the motor and they can still be bought at some dealers, or on the net, and Ebay at times. Most fuel tanks have the same larger style fitting. The motor fitting can be changed out to the new two prong fitting that is for sale on Ebay for the newer year motors of the same HP as yours. The old 9.8 motors have the same fitting as the 7.5 Mercs. JMO

I asked the same question to the guys at oldmercs.com and they said I needed a $50 check valve, there is no way I'm paying that much just for one fuel valve. Is there anywhere else I could get one
