Hello I have a Johnson model 40EL73D. When I got this motor the lower cylinder had to be cleaned out and after some effort got it freeded up. It had spark but would not start so replaced the fuel pump and rebuilt the carb. Still would not fire. Then went on vaca for two weeks and now its stuck again! Is this engine worth the effort? I have the manual but never rebuilt one of these motors before. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks:confused:

I would set it with the spark plug holes up and spray a bunch of PB Blaster into the cylinders. That should get all the rings and pistons freed up.

I put mystery oil in the cylinders about a week ago. Should I clean that out before trying the blaster stuff? How long does it take for that stuff to work? Thank you for your help.:)

You need to free up the engine and get it started. Without the engine running there is no oil on the cylinder walls to protect them and they can rust up again. Get it started and maybe use a little extra oil in the gas for the first tank.

Ok. when I get her unstuck I'm sure i'll have more questions about getting it started. Thanks for the input:)
