Can someone please tell me if a '73 Evinrude 65HP has shear pins or not? The engine runs great but the prop doesnt spin. A friend of mine told me I may have broke a shear pin and another person said they dont have shear pins. Will someone please tell me if they do or dont before the fists start flying over shear pins!!!

Model # 65373R
Serial # J0018466

Thanks for the help
~Dave

No - no shear pins. It has a splined propshaft. If the prop doesn't turn at all, then you have a shifting problem - check cables, linkages, etc. If the prop turns some, but doesn't drive the boat well, then you may have a spun hub.

- Scott

Thanks a lot for the info Scott. One more question, How much of a pain is it to replace the hub on one of those. Is it something I can do or should I sell my house and pay a professional to do it!

Thanks again
~Dave

dave, i repaired my prop that was slipping . just pull off the prop and you should be able to remove the rubber part since it is slipping, it should be loose. i used a hi strength adhesive to glue the rubber part back in after cleaning it all with laquer thinner and roughing up the surface with sand paper .

Rebuilding a prop that has spun. Usuall is not to bad a repair bill. 50 bucks or so.

I have for many years carried an extra prop. You never know when your gona hit something and ruin uh blade or strip the rubber cushioned hub.

Just a cheapie alum. until I get my SS prop repaired. Aint happened yet, But it will someday!

Good luck!
