73 chrysler

I'm restoring a 73 chrysler I'm replacing the stringers but there seems to be a center support which is about a two inch by eight foot board covered in glass. Is this normal or should it have a center stringer

Normal replace what's there.

Thank I went ahead and took out the cap to find rotten wood sure am glad I caught that before I put on the new deck
