Re: 72 Johnson 125hp
Welcome to iboats, J125.
The recirculation system is trying to do it's job,but you are running too rich,if it fouls the plugs in less than 80 hour operation. 80hours is normal replacement interval for 2 cycle,carbed outboards.
But bear in mind, running too rich is FAR better than running too lean. If you error on the lean-side, you run the risk of major internal damage caused by insuficiant lubrication... Unless you can tell which carb or injector is supplying too much fuel, leave it be, and carry extra plugs and a wrench when on the water.
Two other things;
make sure your fuel is fresh, and 50:1 ,with a good grade of TC-W3 oil.
If the fuel is older than 6 months, or the tank hasn't been dried and cleaned in the past 4 seasons, best to do that too.
Also, when you have the plugs out, if you find one that looks like new after 10 or so hours, and the others are black, I would highly suspecr water injestion on the clean plug's cylinder. It's being steam-cleaned....ungood.
Plugs should be black after only an hour or so of operation on 2-cycle engines.
Hope this helps. lettuce know what u find
