We have a 72 Chrysler 130hp that is new to us. We have had it on the lake all summer with no problems.Today thou..... the engine would idle but when put in to gear it would bough down and then dye????? We did replace the plugs and that did not seem to help.We were able to go very slow but could never get it up to any type of speed. We are new boat owners and are really clueless. Anyone have any suggestions.. Thanks in Advance

Start with the basics.Get a manual.Compression/spark tests. Then check the fuel system. Ethanol is screwing up a lot of motors.J

OK, so the very adept son-in-law and his mechanic father came over. Replaced the hoses to the carbs, disassembled the carbs and cleaned them with a carb cleaner. The diaphrams were fine, the original cork seals for the sediment bowl were leaking, made some new ones. Cleaned the fuel pump screen.... and put in new spark plugs. Reassembled everything and ran Sea foam carb cleaner/gas additive thru it all day Sat on the lake. It ran rough for about 10 min when I first started it but, settled down nicely and ran as well as it ever did after that. Ran it all day Sunday too.....no problems whatsoever! That old Chrysler motor just keeps on impressing everyone.......
