'72 800. Random loose hose. Help?

Port side, between throttle cable slider and the block aft of the throttle actuator lever. 3/8 hose, possibly connected under throttle cable slider but came out when I move/tugged it to see where/if it was connected. Mercury service manual doesn't have a hose routing diagram.

Sounds like the tell-tale hose that connects to the powerhead. Its is actually 5/16" hose. There is a white nylon 90* barbed fitting that screws into the base of the powerhead below the shift linkage slider (the throttle linkage is the large vertical lever).

It is almost impossible to access it. I have tried. You will most likely have to remove that slider mechanism to even be able to see the fitting.
