gentelman i am new to this and new to boat restoration i picked up a 71 muskie 17 with real character and would like to get it back on the water. what i thought was a soft spot in the floor turned into deck removal and a few stringers to replace thats when i noticed the transome was completely dry rotted so with the help of my 13 yr old son we pulled the 140hp mercruiser engine and the out drive now im looking at the transome plate on inside and the gimble housing on outside and a whole bunch of wires and cables wondering if i bit off more than i can chew... i know i can get it apart but the install might be difficult i did order a clymers manual to help do any of u have any tips, tricks shortcuts that might help me in my endevor. also what thickness of wood should i use for the transom replacment the original seams to be 2 seperate pieces that are not laminated togethor any help or advise would be appreciated.
