Re: '71 merc electrical question

ok, I'm leaning tward it's the internal wiring harness. I respread the prongs and wiggled it and it tryed to fire up 3 times before it started to click again. This is progress. oh, and one of the pins on it are loose. What other years/models can I pull an internal wiring harness off of to replace this one? Forgot to add I pulled apart the control box and all the wiring looks fine.

Clamneck !!

As a piece of advise, don't try to bend, wiggle or manipulate those pings inside the Plug(s). You could be causing permanent damage and even causing more electrical problems than you started with.
For better electrical connectivity, go to your local Automotive store and buy "Di-Electric Paste". It looks like clear jelly but will help with dry and oxidize connections. And will help water-proof connections.
I use this stuff "liberaly" on EVERY single electrical connection on both the Boat and Motor. It's amazing stuff.
Be sure to clean the connectors first with an aerosol cleaning spray. I use brake cleaner but that stuff is overkill and possibley toxic.

Good Luck.......... CF
