Does anyone know if there's an aftermarket kit available to make it ready for morse controls and a steering cable? I've seen a picture of it once but I don't know where it came from.
And, did anyone ever rebuild the carb, using plain sheets of sealing material? I need some information on this because there doesn't seem to be a carb kit available for this engine, and my local dealer keeps telling me I should cut my own.

I have made gaskets for all kinds of carbs from the teens to the 60s. Cars, outboard and inboards
lawn mowers.
I have also reused gaskets in a pinch with pretty good results.
Have you ever made a gasket
using a little hammer to cut it out?

The carburetor kit OMC/BRP #382048 is still available from a J/E dealer.

Ezeke, thanks for the number. A quick search got me to a complete tune up kit from MasterTech Marine. Fortunately they ship to Holland, so I expect to have it running again next month.

By the way Spike, you mentioned using a hammer to cut out gaskets? Does this mean you use a chisel? The only thing I could come up with was a pair of scissors...

Frank

Frank,

I've thought of trying one of their complete tune up kits for the 9.5HP. I would like to hear how that works out. Maybe you could post back to this thread when you are finished.

Bill (MasterTech)has a great reputation and has always been helpful to me, so I am glad that you were able to connect.

Ezeke,

I'll keep you informed as soon as I receive the kit. Meanwhile, I'm still looking for some sort of bracket to hook up a remote handle on my Sportwin. I've built a hydroplane (the Atomite from www.svensons.com/boat/), but to drive this thing using the tiller
would be kind of silly.

Frank

There was a Remote Control and Steering Connector Kit for the 9.5. OMC Part Number 171879 (Complete Kit).

There was a kit for pulley steering OMC Part # 377440. It has two pulleys.

There is a Top Mount Control Kit OMC Part # 171796. That is the throttle control. It is not a remote but with a steering package it could replace the tiller.

Send me an email and I will send you back the pictures These are all the parts that I see that were specific to the 9.5.These are only the parts for the motor end, not the helm.

Also check this: 9.5 Remote

Happy to inform you that I finally found the bracket and lever to replace the tiller on my Sportwin. I came across the website of Sea-Way in Seattle, which apparently stocks any old part you need.

Thanks again Ezeke for the part numbers. I'll send you an email for the pictures.

Frank
