71 60hp head gasket question

I had 150psi compression on all cylinder according to inexpensive compression guage I have. I had problem that seems to be from the <br />power pack. Power pack gets very hot,dies,wont<br />restart til cooled. I can put ice pack on it & it<br />wont overheat & fail till the ice melts. Anyways,<br />I decided to do pull the head & visually insp <br />pistons/cylinder walls before I sink any more dough into it. Looks serviceable. So I go look at<br />head gaskets, 2 choices/ regular gasket & low<br />compression gasket. Who needs low compression gasket & why? I dont need high performance, my main concern is reliability. Was a low compression<br />gasket made available to run lower octane gas, or <br />address some other issue????? Also does anybody <br />have any specific recommendations on power packs. <br />Factory,Seirra, Other? Is there better choice. I <br />can do some modifications if necessary.

low compression-poor fuel. Some ran on kerosene.<br /><br />I go factory, whenever I can.

I took a look at the parts breakdown for you engine Robert and the correct part number for your head gasket is 313413. Did't see any thing about low compression gaskets....which are thicker I believe that the regular gasket. I would stay with the normal gasket.<br /><br />Many folks will use the aftermarket Seirra amp. Cheaper than the OEM which runs around $377. You can get the aftermarket amp from iboats store for about $234. Aftermarkets are usually set up to fit with little hassle. But do remember to always have a fully charged top notch battery to power you engine. Low voltage will blow an amplifier.
