71/2 mercury

I hit an underwater obstruction rather violently and my motor quit. Had trouble restarting and it is only hitting on one cylinder.What happened? Could I have caused it to jump time. Just guessing as I am a complete novice. Was running perfectly before accident.?? Thanks for any help.
