You've probably heard this before! Engine cranks but only runs for 15 to 30 seconds. It happened once before and local bandit, I mean mechanic said he changed the ignition switch. Could this be the problem again? I changed fuel line, drained tank & replaced w/fresh mix. When it runs, it runs gooood!

Howdy Gatorbait. 15 to 30 seconds is just about the right amount of time to empty your carb bowl. I suspect your fuel pump pumpeth not.

See what happens if you keep pumping the primer bulb. If that will keep it running overhaul your fuel pump. If not, get back to us.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

There seems to be plenty of pressure in bulb when it dies. I'm not much of an outbd mech but I don't see a fuel pump just a fuel filter on the side of motor. The best I got was holding the elec choke in & it ran for about a minute and a half. You don't think it could be electrical?

It has to have a fuel pump. These are usually operated by engine comnpression. Follow the fuel line back from the carb.It should go to the fuel pump. If not, your engine probably has an integrated pump in the carb itself.
Try squeezin the primer,as JB sujested, or spray some WD40 directly into the carb. If it continues to run on the WD40,it's the fuel pump. Yes, it could be electrical, but not as likely as the fuel pump. The windings in the trigger coil could be heating up and opening. It could also be th float valve stuck shut in the carb.
But let's rule-out fuel delivey for sure first.

Hi gatorbait
Do yourself a favor and buy a manual. They cost about 30 bucks. You can also check them out of the library. Even if you decide not to perform the work yourself, you will have a better understanding of whats going on. You might not feel so screwed. Good luck and happy new year.

People are getting side tracked again. He said it runs longer with the choke on , this probbly means the main jet is pluged or very close to it .1st get a manual if you don't have one already. 2nd , check for compression and spark and if there good pull the carb off and rebuild it. Factory carb kits from Bombardier are cheap and come with all the parts you need .Also use fresh fuel when you go to run it up.

Thanx for all the great ideas. I spoke to my neighbor about it and he said he had the same problem on an Ev 35. He even had a rebuild kit! Of course he didn't realize he had it until I was already headed for the parts store!!! Before I could get back, he had the thing torn down, cleaned and put back on the motor. Seems it was just real dirty inside. He cleaned the jets and a few other things and it runs great. Wish I'd been there to see what he did!!!
