70's coil

Will the green coils off a 70's 85 hp work on a 1976 40 hp.I know the connectors will have to be cut off and spliced.How can you check the cylinoid

Highly doubtful on the coils. Totally different ignition systems.

What is the solenoid doing or not doing?

Cylinoid was doing nothing .first one was bad 2nd one I had to adjust neutral safety switch and it is now working.I have no fire from the coils to the plugs with the 73 model coils.Dont know if it's them or my aftermarket switch wireing
