hello,i have replaced a stator on a 1974,70hp johnson and i dont have full power now.stator was melting it finally quit starting,it was running fine before it went out.it starts and runs fine but no full power.

Do a cyl drop test on it and see which cyl's aren't firing. You may have other probs in the ignition system.

did the test ,top very little fire no change in motor,middle lots of fire allmost died,bottom fire is jumping from wire to pliers motor sounds better with it off?

Without testing the system out with a DVA meter a good guess would be a bad power pack. But that's just a guess.

Would the coils or power pack go bad at the same time stator went out?
the boat is still running good and will get up on plane with just me in it,but not with anouther #200 man in it?
before the stator went it would get on plane with 3 #200 men.

Without it running on all 3 cyl's, yes you will have a prob. Just for the heck of it, did you ever check the compression on it ??

Thanks boobie for helping.I checked the compression,problem 25 lower than others so i pulled head,its buggered up pretty good.Something got in there and peppered it up.Can i rebore to .030 just that cyl.,the other 2 was at 130 and look good.I was going to put new rings and bearings on the 2,will that be ok?I still have to check reeds.I think thats what did it.

Yes you can bore just one cyl with no probs, but as long as you're in there put new rings on the other pistons.

I finally got it apart.Rings broke,the piston thats in there is a AC#319295. Question will the wiseco pistons be the same weight as these?Should i bore all 3 for the same piston Wiseco 3115P3? Will the rings for the wiseco fit on the AC pistons?
