Hi folks, new to this forum. I will be given a 16' Aluminum boat with a 70hp Force outboard. The problem is the power tilt is not working but needs to be lifted up in order to drive the boat home. My question is there a manual tilt on these motors that I can unlock the tilt and lift up manual? Any advice will be most appreciated.

Is this a Mercury Marine Force, made from 1990-1999 ?

I know there is no hydraulic pressure relief valve on the 1990-1995 models.
You can unscrew a hydraulic line at the bottom of the pump to release the pressure.
Oil will spray out so protect yourself by covering the whole thing with an old towel.
Then lift the motor.
Place 2x4 under motor midsection and strap it down to hold it.
Maybe duct tape the 2x4 in place so it doesn't wiggle out, seriously.

Maybe there is on the newer ones. Not sure.

Thanks for the quick reply Roscoe, I will be taking a look at the boat at the end of this week.

Force motor is a 75hp 1997 model. Here are some pics I took yesterday. Looks like leaf springs are shot causing motor to sag down to a few inches from ground level. Sorry for the bad pictures. Will use triple AAA to tow home but still have to resolve loss of power tilt issue.DSC02092.JPGDSC02094.JPGDSC02095.JPGDSC02096.JPGDSC02093.JPG

Yours does have a relief screw, on the bottom white screw.
WD-40 or any penetrating spray, spray liberally.
Turn to the left.
I see a BIG problem, your boats growing black hair :)

Yep, big old screw just to the left of the trim motor, inside the motor transom mount bracket. Loosen, lift motor, tighten.
