70hp 3 cylinder mercury

Hey iboat, im new to boats and have purchased my first project.....it came with very clean and in great condition(physically) 70 hp mercury3 cylinder outboard, i cannt get it to start......its getting fuel, brand new plugs .......but no spark. the oil injection buzzer does not come on when you turn the key before starting it.....im curious to know if that warning not coming on is somehow killing the ignition.....any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

What year? I have a 70hp 3-cyl Mariner but its an '85. There is no oil injection on mine.

If there is no spark, have you checked the kill switch? How about the rectifier and/or power pack?

I wont lie .....i have no idea where the kill switch is. there is a small coverd switch underneath the controls and its on....how do i test the power packs?

That would be your kill switch.

I'll see if I can find the information I used that helped me troubleshoot my problem. I had the same problem last year and it ended up being the power pack... I just can't remember how I came to that conclusion.
