Re: 70 Force

Welcome to the forum.
Please post the year & model number of your outboard. This will make it easier of others to help you.

Your motor may just need the carbie adjusted but it could also be something else causing the problem.

The idle/mixture adjustment is the last thing I do when servicing the motor. Have already checked compression, fuel, spark, decarbed, cleaned carbie, checked float level and timed the engine.

These links may help.

Timing link in FAQ section http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=228183

Link and Sync by Frank Acampora. Better than the manual. I set the timing on the water. Not sure whether Frank is talking about static timing in this artical.

Re: 70 Force

Before you mess with the carb, change the plugs. Fouled plugs often lead to a low idle speed and stalling when put into gear. If that does not help, the check the idle speed--it should be 700-750 in forward gear in the water. If it is not correct, then set it using the idle stop screw on the carb/timing tower.
